You should be ready shortly before 8:00 a.m., as the bus will pick you up at your hotel in Puerto Viejo to begin the transfer to Bocas del Toro.
Departure Itinerary from Puerto Viejo:
- 8:00 a.m. to 9:30 a.m.: Travel to the border
- 9:30 a.m. to 10:30 a.m.: Border crossing (Costa Rica time)
- 11:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m.: Travel to Almirante (Panama time – 1 hour ahead)
- 12:30 p.m. to 1:00 p.m.: Boat to Bocas Town
Return: Bocas del Toro, Panama 🇵🇦 to Puerto Viejo, Costa Rica 🇨🇷
We will meet you at the Taxi Valencia dock, in Bocas Town, Isla Colón. From there, you’ll start a boat ride of approximately 30 minutes, passing charming islands and mangroves until you arrive at Almirante. One of our modern, air-conditioned shuttles will be waiting for you there to take you comfortably to the border by van.
Our guide will assist you throughout the immigration process, both when exiting Panama and when entering Costa Rica.
Once the immigration procedures are completed, we will continue directly to Hotel Banana Azul, where the trip will end.
Return Itinerary from Bocas del Toro:
- 8:00 a.m. to 8:30 a.m.: Check-in at our counter at Taxi Valencia, Bocas Town
- 8:30 a.m. to 9:00 a.m.: Boat ride to Almirante
- 9:00 a.m. to 10:00 a.m.: Travel to the border
- 10:00 a.m. to 11:00 a.m.: Border crossing
- 10:00 a.m. to 11:00 a.m.: Travel to Puerto Viejo (Costa Rica time)
Some of the Requirements to Enter Panama:
Passengers are 100% responsible for checking the entry requirements for Panama on their embassy or consulate’s website before booking this trip.
- When leaving Costa Rica, there is a $9 exit tax, and upon entering Panama, there is a $4 entry fee. These fees are not included in the ticket price.
- It is essential to have a passport valid for at least 6 months, as well as a printed flight itinerary to present to immigration officials.
- You must demonstrate financial solvency of at least USD $500.00, which can be shown in cash, credit card, bank statement, employment letter, or traveler’s checks. Note: Certain nationalities may be required to show a higher amount. Please check with the Panamanian consulate in your home country or with your airline.
- To enter Panama by bus, travelers must present a flight itinerary showing their departure from Panama or from any Central American country. Bus tickets are not accepted as valid proof of departure.
The return flight can be from any location in Central America to your home country or your next destination. - Pick-up times are approximate and may vary by 30 minutes to 1 hour in either direction. Passengers must be at the designated pick-up location 30 minutes before the scheduled time. The shuttle will wait a maximum of 5 minutes; otherwise, it will depart without the passenger and no refund will be issued.
- Each person is allowed 1 large suitcase or backpack and 1 carry-on item. Additional luggage, oversized or overweight items, or surfboards (up to 6 feet 5 inches) will incur an additional fee of $22.
