You should be ready a little before 5:00 am for the bus that will pick you up at your hotel in San Jose from where you will head to Puerto Viejo.
There, you will have the opportunity to have lunch at the Banana Azul restaurant. Subsequently, we will head to Bocas del Toro, where a guide will assist you in the process of crossing the border and entering Panama. Once in Panama, our transportation will take you to Almirante, from where you will board a boat to Bocas del Toro. You will be dropped off at the Caribe Shuttle dock, located next to the Bocas Town Hotel.
Departure itinerary from San Jose:
- 5:30 am to 6:30 am: Hotel pickup in the city of San Jose.
- 6:30 am to 11:00 am: Travel to Puerto Viejo
- 11:00 am to 12:30 pm: Lunch at Banana Azul
- 12:30 pm to 1:30 pm: Travel to the border
- 1:30 pm to 2:30 pm: Border crossing (Costa Rica time)
- 3:30 pm to 4:30 pm: Travel to Almirante (Panama time – 1 hour ahead)
- 4:30 pm to 5:00 pm: Boat to Bocas Town
Return: Bocas del Toro, Panama 🇵🇦 to San Jose, Costa Rica 🇨🇷
We will meet you at the Taxi Valencia dock, Bocas Town, Isla Colón. You will embark on a 30-minute boat journey that will take you through charming islands and mangroves to Almirante, where you will board one of our modern air-conditioned shuttles directly to the border in vans. Our guide will assist you in the immigration process as you exit Panama and check in to Costa Rica.
Afterward, we will promptly head to Banana Azul, where you can enjoy one or two hours of lunch and relaxation at this cozy boutique hotel located on the beach in Puerto Viejo.
Subsequently, we will pick you up to embark on the direct 5 to 6-hour journey to downtown San Jose hotels or the airport.
It is important to note that due to extensive construction on the road between Puerto Viejo and San Jose, considerable delays may occur.
Return itinerary from Bocas del Toro:
- 8:00 am to 8:30 am: Check-in at our counter at Taxi Valencia, Bocas Town
- 8:30 am to 9:00 am: Boat ride to Almirante
- 9:00 am to 10:00 am: Travel to the border
- 10:00 am to 11:00 am: Border crossing
- 10:00 am to 11:00 am: Travel to Puerto Viejo (Costa Rica time)
- 11:00 am to 1:00 pm: Lunch at Banana Azul
- 1:00 pm to 6:00 pm: Travel to San Jose
- 6:00 pm to 6:45 pm: Return to the hotel
Some of the Requirements to Enter Panama:
Passengers are 100% responsible for checking the entry requirements for Panama on their embassy or consulate’s website before booking this trip.
- When leaving Costa Rica, there is a $9 exit tax, and upon entering Panama, there is a $4 entry fee. These fees are not included in the ticket price.
- It is essential to have a passport valid for at least 6 months, as well as a printed flight itinerary to present to immigration officials.
- You must demonstrate financial solvency of at least USD $500.00, which can be shown in cash, credit card, bank statement, employment letter, or traveler’s checks. Note: Certain nationalities may be required to show a higher amount. Please check with the Panamanian consulate in your home country or with your airline.
- To enter Panama by bus, travelers must present a flight itinerary showing their departure from Panama or from any Central American country. Bus tickets are not accepted as valid proof of departure.
The return flight can be from any location in Central America to your home country or your next destination. - Pick-up times are approximate and may vary by 30 minutes to 1 hour in either direction. Passengers must be at the designated pick-up location 30 minutes before the scheduled time. The shuttle will wait a maximum of 5 minutes; otherwise, it will depart without the passenger and no refund will be issued.
- Each person is allowed 1 large suitcase or backpack and 1 carry-on item. Additional luggage, oversized or overweight items, or surfboards (up to 6 feet 5 inches) will incur an additional fee of $22.
